Sea Ray tachometer replacement

I'm kind of a purist on the service record for my boat. I recorded the hours we changed the tachs, noted in the service record the hours on the old tachs and that the new ones started at "0". I have also retained the old tachs with my spares to give to the new owner so he can verify the accuracy of the service record.......that is, if I ever sell the boat.

Ditto Frank...my old tach is in the container in the garage with all of the stuff that stays with boat if/when we sell her. In my case (for now, until the other original tach pukes) the port tach still shows the original hours. Any prospective buyer can add the hours of the old stbd tach and the new to equal the port tach.

I was curious about this topic. I have tachs with incorrect hours due to replacement. The hours are mismatched tach to tach. One tach is unreliable. I contacted teleflex here is their response.

Hello Jon, I believe this tachometer requires a 5†opening. Teleflex Marine has no After Market tachometer to fill that opening, or anything to match the Sea Ray tachometer. This is a replacement you will need to replace from Sea Ray. Most of Sea Ray dealers do have “gage testers†that can be set to a frequency to activate the hour meter and add time. However, this will take how ever many hours you have on your hour meter to duplicate.

Thank you for contacting us.

I am in search of new tachs, just got a call from my local MM.................Sea Ray told my MM guy that the exact tachs I have on my 370DA are still available with the SR logo, mechanical hour meter.............I said that's great, how much are they, he said $419 EACH. I guess I'm going to plan B.............what is plan B, am I missing something here?

What can I say.........I've got a '96 that had mechanical hour meters. The service manager at our dealer told me not to replace mine with those, but that the new tachs with the LCD hour meter were much more reliable. My cost for the new design tachs was well under $200 ea.........something like $165- $168??.

I'd say you need to ask the dealer some more questions , perhaps they made a mistake on the price or the cost qoted is for a pair of replacements.

Thank you all for the tips. I went to the Sea Ray dealer on Friday an the parts guy did realize he was wrong but didn't have my phone number to call me back. He found the digital hour meter and sold it to me at a reduced price - ever cheaper than the original one. (I had to promise him never to tell anyone the exact price  )
I am Happy!

Help - - I can't find the setting for my new tach. Before I start this project I noticed that there are settings on the back of the tach for setting up the number of cylinders (I assume). The numbers were not intuitive to me. I looked in my merc manual but did not find it. Is it the same as my original settings even though the new one is and LCD version?

Thanks for any help here! - Mark

UPDATE....................ordered new tachs from Flounder Pounder last week and installed them Sunday and gave them a test run. They have the LCD hour meter and SR logo...........$150 EACH. Replacement was a push / pull, wire for wire, they work great.
