After some resurch we think our next boat will be the 310. Is there things that I should be aware of with the 2000-2002 310?
We live on the Great Lakes and prefer a freshwater boat.

Thanks
Dan

The only issue is with the exhaust - at some point Sea Ray went from log style exhaust to the mufflers. Research that and it should help you answer that question.

You will like the 320 better....

Maybe, Humph....

It would be wise to look at both, but there are a few things I like better about the 310. Out west, we like our shade, and the 320 has very narrow canvas compared to the 310. This is due to the very narrow radar arch (at the top). This significantly limits effective shade. Also, while I generally prefer island beds, the shoulder room on the 320 forward berth is tight. In addition, it is a very long drop from the cockpit to the cabin sole (lots of steps are more cumbersome when loading/unloading, etc.). Bridge clearance is lower on the 310, if that matters.

I would also note that 310 is by far the best handling/riding boat of this size I have been on. I have been on a bunch, but not the 320.

I do like that you can get a SS cladded windshield frame on the 320. The styling is also more contemporary on the 320, although I prefer the 310's styling.

I had full camper canvas on my 320 so plenty of shade. We are out West and although not as hot as AZ, the valley where we keep the boat hits above 100 often and mid to high 90's is the norm in the summer. I am just under 6' 3" and was able to sleep fine in the forward berth so I am confused about the shoulder room issue. Everyone has their likes and dislikes in boats and for the size I thought the 320 was a very nice layout. That boat handle great and with the v-drives I was able to handle it very well in close quarters. 4-blade props would have been added if I kept her.

for what it's worth, jerry and i found the 310 to be a better fit for what we were looking for.

we wanted the biggest, smallest boat, with the best performance, and ease of handling. all this in a package we could trailer our selves

the 310 has exceeded our expectations.

Humph, for clarification.... Th canvas on the 320 is narrower (about 18 inches). So, the sun has to be more directly over you to provide protection than it does with the 310. This may very well not matter in the area the OPer is from.

The shoulder room thing I found again to be due to the berth tapering right before the bow. For me, it makes it less comfortable when sleeping on your back or stomach with someone else (less room for your arms).

As I mentioned, I would look at the 320,... and the '98-'99 330 as alternates for the search.

We went out today and looked at the 31, 32 and 34. Each boat has it's pros and cons, the 31 has the bench style seating in the cabin and that is what we like. 32 and 34 have the settee seating and do not like it.
The 31 has the two piece hatch to the cabin and the boat we looked at had a gap between the two doors, not sure if this can be fixed? Price on the 32 and 34 is pushing the limits of what we want to spend.
The 31 we looked at today also had one of the cabinet slider doors not working, not sure if you can get parts to replace these?

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Dan

The cabin doors on the 310 (and many other Sea Rays) are a poor design. On the 310 it is a relatively easy fix as long as the doors themselves are not damaged. Access to the doors is gained by removing the plastic panel to port that covers them when they are open. A couple of pages ago this was addressed briefly. The pars will run anywhere from about $100 dollars to several hundred depending on what you need. They can be purchased from Teak Isle Manufacturing.

Why not a '98/'99?

I don't like the galley design of the 1998, not sure if the 1999 has the privacy hatches

Thanks

bob; no offense but that seem high for a small block, no gen-set, boat in this market.

you say he might offer a deal. might get more looks if price was lower.
also you say its been for sale for years. how has it been laid up for that time??

Thanks Bob, looks nice price does seem a bit high. The horse trading game sure is a pain. I have an offer going in on a boat on Monday....Wish me luck!

Dan,
Good luck with your offer and if it doesn't work out, the boat here is going anywhere!
