Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 240 Sundancer with a Mercruiser 5.0 MPI. I am having the following problem.
Boat is making trhe two beeps warining system. After crusing at low RPM (1,200) for about 30-40 minutes engine stalls. I wait about 10 minutes and the engine cranks no problem again.

I have replaced the IAC valve, fuel filter, water separator, and I still haver the same issue, I also top off the outdrive reservoir as I heard the y have a sensor in them.

Question for diagnosis…
Between the stall and 10 minute restart what happens? No crank? Crank no fire?
Does it ever happen less than 30 mins idling at 1200?
Does it happen if running on plane for same time?
What happens if you run at 1400 for 30 mins?
Does it stall while at 1200 or when backing down throttle to idle after putting at 1200?

Same boat, year, motor and symptom. Changed iac. Mechanic changed dist cap and rotor all fluids and filters. Problem still. First time stalled at low rpm, second time trying to get up on plane. Both times after running great all day and on the way in, so engine was hot(South Mississippi hot). Now mechanic saw some drops in fuel pressure while running and he’s had it going on 4 weeks to change fuel pumps and seals he said we’re leaking. I’m thinking there is still a problem is why I don’t have the boat back. Keeps saying 2 more days.. I’m seeing that I have the cool fuel 3 and he hasn’t mentioned anything about it. I think we need to look into that if problem not fixed. I see a lot of issues and the service bulletin they put out. Btw I just got the boat in feb and only 81 hours when I got it so I bet never serviced cfm.

I had to get towed both times. Thank goodness I’m long time seatow member, never used them though till now lol. Would turn over both times but wouldn’t fire up and if it did would just sputter back to 0

Alexander, along the lines of what Scof said... when you changed the fuel/water sep, did you also change the 2nd filter at the bottom of the housing (the "disc" filter)? What did it look like?

2 beeps means a sensor is complaining... whether it's actually not seeing something it doesn't like or it's flaky is yet to be seen. Look at all of the Smartcraft screens when it's happening. Other than that, get it hooked up to a Merc computer to see what sensor is complaining.

I would also highly suggest NOT using the boat if it's giving you "warning" beeps - it's telling you something is wrong.

It just wont start, it crank but it wont fire up.
No, it only happens after 30-40 minutes
It doesn't happen on the plane
I said 1,200 RMP but it could be at lower RPM, I am going to make sure I to monitore the exact RPM next time

I am going to get it scan to see what codes recroded.

I am going to scan the engine this week to see what codes recorded

Yes, that is my next step, going to try to get it scan soon

Interested to see what codes yours threw. Mine hasn't thrown any at all so its been a bit frustrating. I did get it back today and basically he changed the filter and the 2 pumps in the cfm and cleaned it real good. Said there was a lot of gunk in there. He tested it 3 days in a row before giving it back to me so my fingers are definitely crossed and I'll know more after taking it out this weekend.

No codes can be an indication of a fuel system problem.

What kind of gunk was he talking about? If he didn't clean the tank I would imagine a repeat episode is in the future
Not really sure. I asked him about paint being in it, and he just said it was dirty so he cleaned is out really good. The whole bill was only $375. That was for 2 pumps and a filter.

Sounds cheap, wonder what pumps he used? Did he give you your old parts back?
No he did not. Said the trash in there was what was causing them to run hot and fail. Boat seems to be running fine so far so good. I just got the boat few months ago so I’m start running some fuel treatment too
