Sea Ray Sundance 310

the prop change is a 'smoking gun' to me.....I am thinking a previous owner was having the same problem and instead of finding and correcting the problem they resorted to installing smaller size and pitch props to try and gain back the lost performance....

Should also be pretty simple to find someone with a moisture meter and lay it on the stringers.

Fire order correct, new plugs not sure how old wires are

After reading the remainder of the responses after this, I'd still triple-check that firing order from distributor to plug. I say that, because I made that mistake a couple of years ago on my 4.3MPI, and I've changed many a spark plug wire. I couldn't get the engines to rev past about 2,400 rpm.

See my write up here: http://clubsearay.com/index.php?thr...00rpm-under-load-after-ignition-tuneup.77906/

Post #9 was my a-ha moment. Silly mistake, but engines ran fine otherwise which was what was so perplexing.

Good luck!

That's why I suggested it back in #3. Hanging upside down, crawling around engines, half blind is no way to replace plugs and wires. Don't ask how I know. :)

normally I would agree with checking the plug wire routing again but I believe he had a mechanic check the timing of both engines and he found no indication of a wrong spark plug firing order....

Could it be throttle cable adjustment?
Something limiting throttle advancement at the controls?

here is an update.. I took off the prps and they had 2 coats of bottom paint on them. i resurfaced them back to original. the boat goes on plane in seconds. the starboard motor went to 4,800 rpm wot, port at 4,200 wot. port will only go up with the help of the starboard so still a issue somewhere. broughtthem down to about 3,800 each cruising at just under 30mph. got to Marthas Vineyard in 50 minutes from New Bedford. Great ride.Still feel like bad gas because every so often i noticed port will jump up quick and go right back down.

Timing was off on both motors. Had a mercruiser Tech computerize timing on both motors. Made a difference along with props.

is there an adjustment at the control? or just at throttle at motors? reason i ask on the starboard side i can see all the threads on the throttle cable at motor. On the port side I cant see any threads.

I dont get scared lol..Worked in a prisson for over 20 years.. Fear is gone lol
I have a question. When I run my generator does it charge the batteries. I am not getting a reading on my AC meter when I plug into the shore power and have my AC converter switch on.

My Kohler 5E does have a 15amp charge circuit. I would rather charge with the smart charger when running gennie so I removed the charging circuit fuse from the front panel. If its not charging when the charger is off check the fuse and breakers.

Stripped out? Might want to have someone advance the throttles at the helm and see how the cables react at the Carb.

Wow.... Maybe I'm naive as I am a freshwater boater and can barely even spell the word salt, but I've never heard of anyone painting props. Obviously wasn't a good idea here.
I grew up in Sanborn and lived on Grand Island when I decided to headed south. I ran the Niagara River for years, I now live 20 miles from Daytona beach, have my Sea Ray docked at Ponce Inlet 200 yards from the lighthouse. I can run the intercoastal all day and be in the Atlantic in 10 minutes. I am proud to know how to spell SALT and stutter when I say snaow. Crap I forgot how to spell the white stuff that keeps your boat covered up for 6 months.
