My name is Bruno from Almonte Ontario Canada.
I'm 52, a single dad, son 14 daughter 12 (going on 24).
I was considering buying a condo on the beach down south in Florida the cost of the condo was fine $350,000 but the taxes, utilities, management fees, and the fact we aren't there all year started looking very dim.
I then had someone down in Florida suggest since I go down there 3 or 4 times a year anyway why not look into buying a boat to leave in Florida at a nice marina of which when we will fly down could enjoy during the cold winter months back in Canada.
After many hours of research, costs expenses and looking at all the different boat companys it was making sense. I have narrowed the search to a 2003 or newer 32' or 34' Sea Ray for now. If I love it then I will upgrade to a larger boat (40' or 42') To entertain and stay on for weeks at a time.
I went to the local marina up here that is the Sea Ray dealer for my area and took the tour. Wow, very impressed when you get to see the boat instead of the internet searches.
The quality is second to none. The interior down below, the seats, the whole package was stunning.
I am flying down in Nov to visit a half dozen marinas on the West coast. Should be fun. They are like resorts with the added option of having your boat with you. So far I haven't seen any negatives of buying a boat. Insurance was around $2800-$3500 which seemed a bit steep but then we don't have hurricanes in Canada. Next time I should have pictures and maybe the boat .

Love the idea! Remember, though you will have many of the same fees/costs for a boat there too. I'm sure you figured some of that already.

We're very happy with our 340; however, if you want more of a condo like boat, consider getting a sedan bridge. Your salon will add additional space and home-like comfort.

Bruno...go bigger the 32 34 is not the boat for you . Get into the 40+ range, in this buyers market now is not the time to go small!...Ric

This sounds like an awesome idea. I agree with Chris R. You'd be much more impressed with a 36 Sedan Bridge. Those boats are incredible. Great amount of living space for its size.

I've seen some pretty good deals on http://www.boats.com for these boats.

Good luck!

Sounds like you visited Peter Hurst... I've/we've been contemplating a similar plan and I agree with previous posts, a Sedan Bridge would be a better purchase as you would feel more comfortable with the above waterline roominess.
Good luck.

+1 on bigger for sure! I could never spend a week living, truly living with our 7 and 5 year olds on our 330. Your plans look like a 2-3 week span that would get tied. I would go bigger. I would say a sedan bridge type boat would be nice which would give you your son and daughter a private stateroom and one in the salon. You may want to go bigger and in the 2000 - 2001 range? Of course with bigger comes more insurance, higher slip fees etc....

Enjoy your trip looking around that sound like a fun time for sure!!! By all means look at the 340's but also take some time to look at a few larger sundancers and maybe sedan bridges too...

I agree with Tom. Our 340 DA is great for the wife and me but in your case go bigger if you can. We stopped at a 340 because of the weight on our lift. If I was going to keep it in the water I would go bigger. We save big bucks by keeping it on our lift at the house for winter storage.

Love the plan but I would also suggest to go as big as you can now rather than buy one size already planning to move up. The 2 foot itus is just plain expensive and the only person who benifits is the local government for the taxes you keep paying on each purchase - not to mention all the cost getting the boat right and then selling it. We just bought our 400 Sundancer and while it is not the Sedan Bridge the room is impressive. Good Luck.
