No boat....no engines
So a friend of mine at our marina has a 37' Silverton aft cabin. He also owns a 1984 19' Sea Ray Seville that he bought new. The boat has 380 hours on it. But it had been sitting in a storage field at our marina for about 2 1/2 years. The boat has been uncovered and nothing done to preserve it. We made a deal that he would pay for parts and I would fix it and we would share the use when we were at the marina. I had no idea if it would even run. Before I could even move it I had to evacuate about a million spiders, put a battery in it so I could raise the drive and put air in a tire. I wish I had taken a few before pics.

So I hauled it to the house and started on the outdrive. I needed to change bellows, water pump, etc. just so I could run water thru it and try and start it. Unbelievably the engine tuned over (140hp 3.0L 4 cyl.) I ended up doing quite a bit of work on it and I estimate I have about 75 hours and $1200 I parts. This includes doing the boat twice with Buff Magic and Pro Polish. I had to do a little work on the electrical system but remarkably things worked and looked better than it deserved to based on how rough it was.

So anyway, today she went into the water for the first time in 2 1/2 years and she ran great. No leaks from the drive and the only hiccup was I needed to adjust the idle speed. Below is a pic of her back in the water.

The beauty of this deal is if I want to go for a ride I don't have to get Makai all disconnected from the slip. I still have a bit more to do but this has been a real fun project. What's better than working on a boat in 100+ degree heat.

So now I am back in a Sea Ray!
