Sea Ray is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Tellico Lake Plant in Vonore, Tenn.

“I often think about what it has taken for Sea Ray to become the globally esteemed marine company it is today,” Sea Ray Boat Group president Tim Schiek said in a statement. “And when I consider our many innovations and achievements over the years, I always find myself thinking of the amazing people who’ve been vital in making Sea Ray the proud community that it is. The Tellico Lake plant is emblematic of the dedicated Sea Ray network we currently have. Much more than Sea Ray employees and co-workers, these are friends and family. And for their decades of hard work, I want to congratulate the Tellico Lake plant on 30 proud years.”

Sea Ray’s relationship with Monroe County, Tenn., began in 1983 when the company was looking to expand manufacturing operations to accommodate its newly released Seville model and increase production of 18- to 25-foot runabouts.

At the time the plant opened, Sea Ray advertised for 30 jobs and more than 4,000 people applied. Today 13 of the original 30 who were hired still work at the plant, and more than 50 percent of the current employees have worked for Sea Ray for 20 years or more.

“This is a momentous occasion for everyone at Sea Ray, and I’m honored to recognize the consistently diligent work of our friends in Vonore,” Schiek said. “Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for our great company.”
