Operating at night, a boat that size, with that many aboard, WITHOUT RADAR! That's insane in my judgement. Radar is worth its weight in gold, (as long as you know how to use it).
I question the speed issue. Didn't look like the river bank was disturbed at all. I'm not familiar with the St. Croix River. Does it have much of a tide? If so, is it possible he grounded during high tide and just got stuck?
