Sea Ray 390 Newbie - Enclosure options

For us, we love being able to provide shade on the entire cockpit. We don't have cockpit a/c, so that may have had some impact on how we set-up our boats, but I doubt it. We enjoy the air, and shading goes a long way.

On our previous boat, a 370DA, we designed our own set-up, and the folks that made it did a wonderful job. I absolutely can't stand the visual of a bunch of poles obstructing the view - so we went a little different route and it couldn't have worked out better.

I'm surprised I don't have a better picture....but our set-up had just four poles, and the rear two poles unlatched and folded up and were held within the frame above - so only two poles would be holding the top for unobstructed views providing it wasn't super windy or none of the drop down parts were on.

Creating an entirely closed cockpit during adverse weather, or for privacy, or whatever....was important to us while in CO. We had mesh on the outside, zip in glass, and solid privacy covers for the glass sections that would attach inside via Velcro....did everything we wanted it to do....and we could adjust to whatever the need would be. A slant back, while a little less consuming to put up or take down, sliced the back of the boat and made the entire rear seating section completely useless to anyone taller than 4' 2". A full camper enclosure changed the cockpit in very positive ways.

Our new to us boat in TX has a full canvas top / camper - and the shade it provides on the water is even more critical here - though we do finally get to experience a covered slip.
