Greetings from Perth Australia.

Recently purchased a 2006 38 Sundancer a couple of weeks ago from a seller in Mandurah. Didn't think I would get to use it much this time of year but the weather here has been fine and mild with virtually no wind - so a good time to cut my teeth on the new purchase considering I've moved up from a 5 metre Quintrex. :smt001

Soon to have the manifolds replaced and a few small items picked up on the marine survey report. Loving it so far.

At the moment this site is my bible, but hopefully will be able to contribute with my own experiences in the future.

Cheers

Welcome:

Just something to check. I put my 2007 38 in the water last weekend and found a leak by the strainer. I went to tighten the clamps and found that the hose was dry rotted. I have had two different mechanics tell me this usually doesn't happen until the boat is 20 years old, not 7. But, moral of the story I am replacing 5 hoses all with dry rot. I don't know if my boat had a bad roll of hose or the whole lot from this time period was bad for all.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and good to see some other Aussies on the forum as well.

Quickly added one of the for sale pics to my original post.

Brutus: Most of the hoses have already been changed bar one from what I can see.

Heat exchangers were also replaced back in January, and shaft seals were replaced a week before I bought it.

One of the local mercruiser agents have been servicing the boat for the previous owner so he was able to give me a run down of what was done when prior to my purchase.

One question to all - the compression all came up at 210 for all cylinders on both motors - is this typical - motors have 440 hours?

I've had some initial trouble with the bow thruster - but since discovered the wrong shear pin had been previously used. After a bit of research - my curiosity got the better of me when the I discovered the pin was bent in the middle rather than shearing. I suspect the pin was starting to fall out and hence bending in the middle. I changed the correct pin in yesterday and all seems well so far. Time will tell.

wow congratulations she sure is a beauty!! You must have completed your "A levels" lol

Great boat! Sounds like perfect compression to me. No reason a boat with that few hours wouldn't have good numbers like that.

Humph: Thanks for the confirmation re compression. :smt001

sibnai: I've done more courses/exams over the years that I want to remember. :smt024
