I'm considering the purchase of a Sea Ray 290. Does anyone know of any problems or things I should look for? The model year is 2006.
Thanks

I love my 06 290. Mechanically its as sound as any other SeaRay. Some like or dislike the styling. Portside seating some have issue with.

Its fast enuf for its size - 42.5mph via GPS at WOT
Comfortable enough - DC to BIH in 8 hours 3 adults one kid. Bay was being nice that day.
Cruises at 28 mph burning 23gph
** these numbers are for my boat obviously **

If you had to, you could trailer it with a 3/4 ton truck, some states you will need a permit for this, its a 9.5' wide beam.

If you want to see the port side seating removed and how to get at all 4 speaker locations topside see my post "Another stereo Upgrade" http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10190

Wife would like a sunpad upfront, I want a Radome and a Cockpit TV. All 3 easy enuf to add.

Captains bolster on mine keeps moving too....I have that on my list to be replaced under warranty as well. Other than that and a lousy stereo..I like it.

I will probably get flamed by all the 290 owners, but for me the biggest question I would ask is can you live with a cockpit that has minimal seating? To me that is the single biggest disadvantage of the 290 unless of course that doesn't matter to you.

(hehe just kidding)

Seating is just right for us and 90% of what we use the boat for. Most of the time its just me, the wife, the kid and a friend or 2 of his. Or we have another couple on the boat with us without the kid.

10% of the time we may have more than 4 adults on board with kids, but its only for short runs to an anchorage, then all the kids are overboard swiming and playing.

When the last one goes off to college and we start spending alot more time on the boat relaxing and entertaining, then its time to move up. Right now, most of our entertaining goes on at the house, and the boat is our escape to relax :)

No flame here...We are normally 4 adults @ a time and it works fine. I would rather have the better V-Berth sleeping in the 290 anyday. Everything in boating is a tradeoff. I...for example didn't like the 260 because of being "tippy" while underway due the the hull design. I guess it doesn't bother you.
