Sea Ray 280 alpha one gen 2 water pump replacment

Just purchased a 05 Sea Ray 280 with twin 4.3 with Alha one gen 2 drives. Question concerning how often to replace water pump in drives . I have heard every year or every three years . Whats the best kit to buy ?I have seen the complete kits with the base ,gaskets ,o-rings ,and impeller and I have seen them with just the impeller and o-rings much less money. Does the whole water pump kit need to be replaced. Seems weird that you spend all this money on a boat that needs things replaced every year , whats up with that. Thanks

More technical advice will follow I'm sure. One thing is certain, & it is something that you need to accept right away. Boating is weird. Very weird.

I bought a 2004 280 this summer with 170 hrs on it. Had impellers changed this fall. Still in very good shape. Could have easily go another season out of them. Changing the when the drives are off is cheap insurance.
