Engines
7.4 efi or Diesel
How often should you clean and or paint the bottom of a sundancer 40 in fresh water. at what miles or yearly intervals.

remo im sure the paint co. will tell ya diffrent but theres so many factors that vary from boater to boater..... fresh water/salt water....length of seasion... water temp... and the list goes on. Just keep an eye on it and your proformance levels...speed...fuel econ.... You will see a drop in both aeras when its time to concider preasure washing and or bottom paint. Hope i was of help to ya. Be safe

I just touch up the spots where the paint is missing, been using the same half quart that came with the boat 4 years ago, I think the less the better..

This is the wrong forum of owners to ask that question.

The water and environmental conditions where the boat is located totally control bottom condition. What works in Chattanooga most likely won't work in the Chesapeake bay area. If you get responses from someone else in the Tennessee River area or perhaps the Lake of the Ozarks, then there may be a parallel. However, your best source for meaningful answers to that one is other owners on the dock where you plan to keep the 40.

Erwin Marine in Chattanooga (not other locations) also probably has a good idea of what is needed to maintain bottoms. They've been in the big Sea Ray/Carver business a log time and should have lots of experience.

to try to put an interval in perspective for you....my 2 previous boats, '96 400EC & '00 400DB, were both ran on TN river to the tune of 100 hrs/season or so. I'm not a 'go slow guy' either, when I'm going, I'm up and running. I'll run 3 seasons on a hull w/ 2-3 topcoats of interlux micron, went 4 seasons once on the 400EC and could tell it (both speed & fuel economy). have some friends that try to get 4-5 years on same body of water and they notice same performance degradation.

your surveyor should be able to give you a good idea what condition your bottom is in and/or hopefully you can lay eyes on some service records to verify when it was hauled & painted last.

Bought my 480 and 400DB out of Chattanooga, if you need a good surveyor, let me know and I'll pm you a name and contact number of one you can trust.

Bought my 05 420DA off of Lake of the Ozarks with 197 hours a couple of weeks ago. Had the original bottom paint on it and had never been out of the water since it was originally splashed. When we pulled it for the survey the surveyor was surprised at how good of condition the bottom paint was in considering its age.

Obviously I'm repainting it before it goes back in the water. I hope the new paint lasts as long.

Thanks, I am looking at the boat that Irwin Marine has. You are right different locations, climate and water will dictate bottom care. Thanks again.
