Saying Hello

H2o Livin, that is a pretty boat! I hope this works out for you. I’m very curious as to what the dealer has to say Friday, again, good luck Friday!!

Matt

I'm with a few of the others here. A near 20 year old boat is going to have issues.

None of what you listed as major, to me would scare me. I would be negotiating with the dealer. And if your not mechanical, then definitely getting an inspection on those items from a mechanic, to work out what sort of work is going to be required.

A 20 year old boat is going to need work now.....or in 2 months, 6 months or 12 months.

Let's be realistic a new boat is going to need work within 3 years or so, or less.

That's why there boats!

Seems like they all need work most of the time:) Hence "The Hole in The Water Club":) Spoke to a brand new 70' Viking owner few weeks ago and he was complaining about already having to get "stuff" fixed:) Good luck, she looks good at least.

WOW! The responses from you all are awesome. Great advice. Depending on the dealer response this Friday will either kill or save the 1995. There is another 370 for sale at this marina/dealer. It is 1998.

To answer your post, Matt, my surveyor was thorough. I was watching everything he was doing, so I got to see just about every inch of the boat. Here are some more pictures of the survey.

After the sea trial:

I'm confused... this is not the same boat that you pictured earlier in this thread. Is this instead the 1998?

JimG - I was wondering why you would make such a statement. I had to view the pictures I posted after your statement...and thinking did the dealer swap boats on me...LOL!

To all - I met with the dealer today. The survey produced four pages of recommendations. Total recommendations were 38. However, 3 of these recommendations were simple things like Safety Equipment (USCG compliant), etc. Those 3 items were not installed at the time of the survey...they will all be in the boat during delivery. The remaining 5 were issues like the forward berth's TV did not power up (all TVs will be replaced by me); the canvas needs cleaning (plan on purchasing the camper style canvas); Bottom paint recommended to be removed and repainted and; two helm gauges not working properly (will be replaced by me).

The remaining 26 recommendations will be taken care of by the dealer...the major items are: repairing the generator (power output is low); replacing fuel lines to generator and engines; windless not working; remote spotlight not working; no power to the macerator; one of the two central bilge pumps needs replacing and; radar equipment on arch was not working (did not know there was a power switch on the actual radar unit (on arch)..was shown it worked today.

The minor issues listed were such things as: anodes not installed (will be prior to delivery); air intake filters on the AC units were dirty (will be replaced); port engine coolant level is low (will be topped off by dealer); etc.

They are preparing the Acceptance of Delivery with all of the recommendations listed and will show either repaired or replaced prior to delivery. The dealer is winterizing the boat for free (shrink wrapped/dry docked). I asked for a price on obtaining a slip for 2015 at their marina...they pointed to the receipt which reflected 1/2 off the winterizing for 2015. The price of the slip should be around $2500+ (which includes electric/water).

I have another meeting on Tuesday finalizing the 2015 slip and the financing. When boating season begins (spring 2015), I will receive the boat with 1) full tank of gas 2) continuing training (definitely taking advantage of this) 3) name on transom 4) go boating kit (USCG equipment as mentioned above).

I do not want to sound like a commercial for this dealership, but, having only been there three times (including the survey/sea trial), they are treating me like I am buying a new boat. Can we afford a new one, yes, however, after seeing this boat in person, we make out immensely, IMO. How clean this boat is, both inside and out; the price and; the work already done and to be done on her.

Sorry for the rant, but we cannot wait for boating season to begin. Makes me envious of those that boat all year round.

Thanks to all who responded and the feedback received. As much as I am looking forward to the positives of boating, we are definitely prepared for the lows as well. Hopefully there will be more positives...

H20 livin, congrats! It sounds like a great boat and its going to be yours!!!! That is a the coolest feeling. Its a pretty boat, take more pictures when you can!!! I’m also glad to hear the dealer is taking care of you. That makes the experience so much better and they will have a built in customer/client for a long, long time. My hats off to them too.

Matt - Thank you for the congrats..the purchase was completed on Tuesday (Veterans Day of all days). More positive news came on this day. The windlass has a safety switch on the lower helm (near your right foot if you were piloting the boat). Surveyor and I did not know this. Once the switch was activated, the windlass worked like a charm. They had already repaired the generator, which was a governor replacement. They are replacing the spotlight, battery charging system and batteries. They were in the process of winterizing the water system.

There is another positive incident I would like to mention. The pre-purchase survey never mentioned anything about latches throughout the boat. I had returned about three hours later after finalizing the paperwork to show my mom the boat. I did not mention to the dealer that I would return. As we were boarding my boat, one of their technicians was working on the transom bumper storage locker. I asked if something was wrong with the storage area, he simply stated, no..I saw they were old and had spares. He had already replaced the one of the left and the right latch was still in the plastic, so it wasn't like it was a used set. Had I not shown up, I feel that I would have never known they were replaced. I know the original latches worked fine, as I checked it during the survey to see if there were any bumpers.

I am by far no one special...but had I known I would have been treated like this, I would have purchased a boat years ago..LOL! This dealer definitely has a customer for life. By the way, the dealer is Marine Max in Lindenhurst. Has anyone here have experience with them? Curious to hear good or bad.

I did take more pictures...

Sea Rays are definitely beautiful boats:

This is a picture where I was walking to the boat. From my post above, when I reached the boat, the technician was in the cabin area and returning to the transom..that is where I inquired about the bumper storage locker..
