We are hoping to go out for one last cruise of the season this week. With that we would like to visit Saugatuck for a few hours and walk around at the shops. Is there a good place to tie up for a few hours near downtown?

Last time we did this the marina on the north side let us tie up but charged us something like $30 for 2 hours... I am ok with paying some money, but $15/ hour is a bit steep.

Thanks,
Ryan

There is a dingy dock around the pier past Coral Gables and the other popular restaurant, on the north side, I can't think of. It is no charge for boats under 26 ft. In this off season you can tie up to the wall by there with a bigger boat I would suspect. We were able to dock outside Clementine's in St Joe in a slip that the owner had already pulled out. This past week it seems more laid back.

The dinghy dock is located near the Butler.

I have always had good luck with Sergeant Marina (269) 857-2873. Spark (the dock master) has always done a great job guiding is in. I believe last time we were there, we tied up (backed into the main wall) for 4-6 hours for $25 (paid extra 10 for power).

It is also nice to back in so that you can people watch.

Ryan-

Ditto with Sparks at Sergents. Too bad the city does not provide good free daytime dock space. We are spoiled in Milwaukee. There are plenty of city dock space that is free up the Milwaukee river and close to restuarnts and bars. This summer one of our favorites, the Discovery World Cove Dock on Lake Michigan started charging $20.00 per day w/ Power. We were a bit shocked at first but, remeber a year back. We were in Chicogo and cost $ 68.00 for one hour... We did not stay long.

Fyi, the dinghy dock in Saugatuck is for 16' and under. Also the city will pop you if you tie off on the sea wall by the ferry. The best bet is ether Sergeants or Coral Gables. Last I knew, Gables was only $10 for 2hrs and they're right down town. Both places monitor ch.9 on vhf. You can just raise them as your entering the channel. Have fun...maybe we'll see ya out there!!

When I think that it costs roughly $30 for 1.5 hours to park my car in Chicago, $30 for a boat doesn't seem so bad. :)
