Sank a 270 Sundeck...

Gosh, what an intro...welcome to CSR, so glad that you and yours are okay:)

Umm, only because no one else has mentioned it...bilge pump wasn't running the whole time? I would imagine that a standard bilge pump could have kept up with a manifold breach, and you would have heard/seen the constant stream of water exiting the side of the boat? Not being judgmental here, just trying to imagine how your bilge could take on so much water without you noticing? Also surprised you didn't hear the exhaust roaring loudly if the manifold crack was large enough to fill the bilge with exhaust water.

Well, both bilge pump(s) were running... from what the Coast Guard guys were saying when they arrived on scene. As far as keeping up with incoming water...nope! Dealer and Coast Guard said no way would both pumps take that amount of water out... plus it happened so fast it was like it was over before it started...
As far as hearing a difference of exhaust loudness... again nope... Had the Captains Call open
being a new boat (to me) as like others the "motor head" in me had to hear the engine roar. So the change of sound did not exist.

Sadly, (after the fact) all the other vintage (2006-?) or before Mercruiser big blocks had issues with the exhaust manifolds. Again, after the fact now I see other big block Mercruiser ads and almost every one of them states "has the new manifolds" I know... duh on my part for not seeing that prior to buying the boat... Lesson learned...
