We took a short trip from Sanibel Island Fl. to Naples Fl. Three boats and 6 people. Our first stop was Gordon Pass in Naples for lunch.

Two nights docked at Naples City Dock gave us some time to explore the area. The weather was perfect, it was a bit warm the first night but gave us a chance to try our portable air conditioner. It worked great!

We had dinner at the Dock and breakfast at the Cove Inn, all within walking distance. Little Marco Pass at Keewaydin Island is a great place to anchor for a few hours, you can anchor in the safety of the river and walk to the gulf.

From there we went to lunch at the Snook Inn on Marco Island. Then to Goodland near Coon Key and a beverage at the Little Bar and Restaurant. The little fish market in Goodland has some really wonderful shrimp for sale, we cooked them on the dock back in Naples for dinner.

On the way home we stopped at Lovers Key, South of Ft Myers Beach. A Hurricane deck boat had a steering issue and called for Sea Tow. Sea Tow showed up promptly and came to the beach rather quickly beaching the boats bow on the beach. They exchanged info and tied a line to the Hurricane. The Sea Tow operator started the engine and put it in reverse, as soon as he did I heard a loud thump and the operator shut it down immediately. He quickly put a dive mask on and jumped in the water to check the damage.

He said the the shaft had separated from the engine? I think he had come in to shallow and had tried to reverse with the prop in the sand. I thought his boat had some sort of keel guard around the prop and shaft but he said it did not.

We have always wondered if Sea Tow ever needed Sea Tow! Now we know. It was interesting to see a boat towing two boats.

Great pics as well as a great little story. Reminds me of when my buddy lived in Cape Coral and we used to run down off Sanibel, Captiva and Ft. Myers beach!! Thanks for sharing!

    Jim,

Great trip and story. It brings back some realy nice memories when I took my boats to all of those places. Even though the water on the Gulf is not as pretty as on the east coast of FL the West coast still offers some beautiful places for boaters. It's hard to forget having lunch on a beautiful sunny day while dolphins dancing next to your boat. Now I have to dream on having an opportunity to bring my 420 to those places.

When I saw the picture of both boats beached it right away didn't look right. When I continued reading your story you proved my got feeling. I have to agree it's a unique picture seeing two boats in tow while one of them is also sea-tow.

    Thank for sharing.

    Cheers,
    Alex.

Makes me drool.... We have just completed a car trip from WA to FL and back 8,257 miles. Our intention was to check out possible canal homes in Cape Coral and the Ft Myers area. We checked out many homes and plan to move w/i the next two years... Hopefully by next year... We stayed on Ft Myers Beach and loved the area.

    Thanks for the pictorial...

Well that's a very subjective assessment. I have to totally disagree. I'll take the Gulf waters for beauty and boating every time over the East coast. Not even close in my book.

I didn't mean that the east coast is better from boating point of view. Actually, I think it's more interesting places to go on the west coast. It's just water on atlantic side has much, much better visability, which plays a big role if you're looking to do dives. Anytime I've visited the gulf, the visability just wasn't there.

It is an LG 7000 BTU Portable airconditioner as shown HERE. Don't expect it to keep the cockpit cool during the day in 90 degree weather. It does cool down nicely after the sunsets. I think my black camper enclosure has a negative R value !!!

    Cool trip! jimandsue60

If you are planning to take a beach vacation and want to go where fishing is readily available, then you should consider Sanibel Island, Florida. The fishing in this area offers something for every avid sportsman. There are a wide variety of fish including Snook, tarpon, redfish and sea trout that can be caught easily from beach or boat.
