Is that the sandbar right off the channel from LEH to LBI? I was about 100 yards from where the markers for it are when I decided to turn around and head back. I was maybe 30 feet out of the channel (about a boat length) and had less than 2 feet of water under me as I came about. Just too easy to ground out there! I stay in the center of the channel at all times unless another boater is coming towards me and I need to give way so as not to force him out. (A courtesy that, incredibly, has been denied me more than once there).
Do you worry about sucking up sand or is that not a concern? I can't get my outdrive up high enough to feel ok about beaching there. And the only place I can see to anchor and still be at proper depth would be in the channel itself, something we obviously can't do.
Am I being too paranoid? After having to get out of the boat and literally DRAG it back into deeper water last summer (and that boat was only a 21 footer, not my current ride), I just don't want that kind of hassle again.
