Sae Ray Vs Waves

I just realized that your boat has Diesels as well as a Sterndrives. Some quesions. What is your normal cruise speed with fuel burn and what is your top speed?

That PWC is a Sea Doo HX. I used to race one around the east coast back in the day. I was just looking at some pics from then the other day. Ahhh, the memories.

About the boat docking and moving sideways its easy to do if you keep the whole maneuver as one fluid motion like the OP did. The boat is rotating around and the cg is actually moving closer to the dock the whole time. Once the boat is parallel to the dock he just bumps it in forward with the wheel to the right a bit to finish things off. This stops the rotation and walks the boat towards the dock.

To put it in simpler terms. The bow is already moving towards the dock, once the boat is parallel he simply puts it in gear turned to the right to make the stern move also.

Yes this is my engine
for the 320DA ,,, by the way in my country my boat model name is sundanser 355 ,,, 320DA in USA ,, so if you want to fix volvo penta the recommended engine is D4 260Hp , one off my Friends he have one with G6 Propeller and i try it before i order my boat actually i don't like it , that's why i order it with D6 310Hp with G7 Propeller by Sea Ray manufacture , maximum rpm3500 with this rpm i touch 42 nautical mile with not full loaded , with rpm 2600 some time 2700 rpm 27 nautical mile depending on the weather , but my favorite speed as cruise speed is 30 or 33 nautical mile with rpm 2900 or 3000 rpm , about burning fuel i try it one time from Kuwait to Bahrain 220 mile distance in six hour with rpm 2700 with 27 nautical mile i can drive more than 27 but my friend in sundanser 510 accompanies me ,, when i arrived Bahrain the EVC control show me i have four hour until i finish my full . so i can use it for Ten hour .

You are right , simple & easy

Jim, well put. Makes complete sense, seems pretty intuitive too. Still would like to see the video!

Yep Jim, that was the one I was referring to.

But since this thread kinda turned into the Docking video, it was a good idea to embed it here too for everyone else to easily see.

And let me just say, that docking video and comments by MoB`7aR and Jim have done wonders for me understanding the physics behind what I saw in that video, and how intuitive it really seems. I just need some time behind the wheel to play! :smt001

Get the bow moving slightly where you want it to go, then turn the wheel opposite direction and with a bit of forward on the one engine, get the boat to slide sideways a bit....awesome.

Yep... I have heard that with V-drives we can walk the boat sideways by turning the rudder hard opposite to the direction of intended direction and use the shifters. I have not had enough time to practice this maneuver...but intend to!

Any tips for achieving this maneuver are welcome

I attached a link to boattest.com that explains it. If you want to walk the boat to port turn the wheel hard to starboard, put the starboard engine in forward and the port into reverse, adjust as needed. It's the opposite for walking the boat to starboard.

In the docking situation in the video above the boattest info doesn't apply. Even if it was a V-Drive boat. Walking the boat to teh side is something you can do when the boat is a few feet from the dock to make it move sideways. Not very effective but its good for a few feet. Walking the boat will move both the bow and stern in the direction you want to go. In the video above this guy is a few steps advanced in skill level from just being able to walk the boat. Instead he is combining movements to gracefully dock the boat, no walking needed. His bow is already going towards the dock, so he actually would put his port engine in forward, wheel to right. This being more effective in this situation that putting the sb engine in forward, wheel to the right as the article would suggest. Either engine would work in this situation. The port engine would move the stern to the left and slow the bows movement. Putting sb in forward would continue the bows movement and move the stern to the left, just not as quickly as the port engine would.

Man that guy is smooth. I know for a fact, I would have hit the rocks, then the dock, then the rocks again, then the dock again X 5. I would have gotten it though.

Great first post and videos....thanks for sharing. So honestly, was it that easy the first time you docked at that location?
