Hey everyone! Just purchased a 2006 280DA and noticed the AC drain pan has a light rust film on the entire pan. Can I block the tray sump drain and fill the tray with a non toxic rust dissolver, let sit, and then vacuum out with a shop vac? Anyone try this to remove the rust? I’m planning to use WD40 rust remover soak.

Depending on the amount of rust I would be care to not remove too much and leave a hole. Some of the AC pans can be replaced with stainless but it would require removing the whole unit and disassembly may also involve drilling out rivets.

A pan for my unit was not easily available and I have been trying to clean it up. I am trying something new this year that a friend recommended. I am cleaning the pan and spraying with flexseal paint. I was told the rubber coating encapsulates what remains and the waterproofing seals the remaining rusted part in.

Eventually I expect to replace my ac unit but it still works fine so no reason yet.

Get a 3-4 inch of plastic hose. Insert it where the drain empties along the side of the boat. Trim it back so that it protrudes just enough that the rusty water from the condensation drain doesn’t stain the side of the boat.

Won’t fix the rusty pan, cheaper than pulling the unit to replace the pan.
