Rule-A-Matic Plus Float Switch

I tried to replace my Float switch in the shower sump with what I thought was a direct replacement …..Rule’s 40A hole pattern is about a 1/4” longer. In my sump I have metal inserts to bolt down the float and I am not about to make another hole….plus my boat has all kinds of these floats.
For the world of me not sure why Rule would have changed this…. Anyone know where to source the older style? I looked around and only the 40 comes up…. I could make a base plate I suppose but prefer not

Mine went out the first of July. Inventory is slim but I found a replacement at West Marine (wonder of wonders!). The new one fits in the box ok, but the screw holes don't match up. So I wimped out and it's held in place by one screw instead of two. I don't know of a source of the old style, so your making a base plate may be your only option.

Yes the 40 is the new design that doesn’t have same mount pattern

Same here. I just replaced mine and it only fits using the forward screw, and not the one on the back where it slides in. So far it's been fine. Actually the broken one I replaced was the same way so it must have been like this for a while.

If you ever upgrade to the newer style box by Rule (98B I think it's called) you get the other style float that looks more like a clothespin

I bought Water Witch switches for my boat over winter. I mounted them by screwing them into the sides of the non-functional Rule float switches. Perhaps worth a shot? One screw into the plastic and they are good to go.
