Boat splashed last week. Yesterday I brought it back to its home slip in DC from Woodbridge.

At at the end of last season we were having a steering issue that I diagnosed as air in our power steering system. I bought hydraulic oil and yesterday went through the process to bleed the system and put in more oil. We have a SeaStar system.

Everything went great. We actually only needed 1/2 QT to fill everything up.

We noticed the wheel was still only going to about 18 degrees to starboard and 30 to port. This was according to the SmartCraft gauge. However, when I actually looked at the steering mechanism in the engine compartment we were getting the full range of motion back and forth. Our center line is off about 10 degrees.

When I left our dealers marina I had a long no wake zone to navigate so I did a few tests to see if the rudder indicator was off and it was. If I had the indicator 9-10 degrees to port we went straight. As long as I accommodated for this I didn't have any steering issues. When crushing this wasn't really an issue.

So so what is the issue:
1- Could the rudders somehow be turned? Boat was pulled for the winter and all looked normal. We inspected them.
2- Can the computer be off?
3- Is there something else I'm missing?

perhaps the rudder sensor is loose ,mine was.

Update on this problem. On my boat I was able to recalibrate the rudder indicator through the SmartCraft menu. There's a setting to offset the rudder indicator in degrees.

From visual inspections I knew my rudder was moving its full range, but the indicator was way off. Now it's right on after making a computer adjustment. Problem appears to be solved.
