After posting a link on my boat leaking in rough water, it was suggested to check the rub rail. I almost crapped myself when I discovered how loose it is. It looks as though some of the screws have been pulled through. I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me how to take it apart and reattach and reseal it. It looks like it is a two piece rail. There is the main bumber that is screwed to the boat and then a trim piece which slides into a channel over it. It looks like it all comes together at the aft of the boat and is held in place by a compression cover. I suppose this is a start, but I dont know how to take the trim piece off. I am afraid that if I pull it out, then it wont go back. Also, is there a special seal that I need to buy to go below the rubrail? Or will a bead of silicone do? Thanks!

You got the idea. Pull the trim piece out. Non-marking rubber mallet will help to put it back in. A good quality silicone will work.

PS - please fill out your signature.

I ended up getting it off no problem. I had to use a screwdriver to kind of press the edges of the trim rail back in because it flared out too much to simply pound back in. All in all it went well though. Thanks!

Good deal! I hope this solves your problem. :smt001

Yep. It does not leak at all anymore. Barely a cupful in the bilge when I am done zipping around the bayou.

Just wondering what size rub rail and rub rail insert you replaced the old one with, and were you purchased it?
I am looking to replace mine but cant find any the correct size and i am not really sure what size i need to get to replace it?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Actually, I just pulled the old one off and resealed underneath it with silicon, then screwed it back down tight. No new hardware needed.

No, i actually called Sea Ray and they said they dont make that rub rail any more. I asked if i could go with a bigger size and they said that should be alright, but i was just wonding since Zuhl had the same boat weather or not he bought new rail and were.

Sea Ray never actually made the rubrail, anyways. Try a dealer - they may have it in stock. If no luck, try a company called Taco.

Yea i have looked at a lot of Taco rail just trying to find white and the correct shape.

No need to stick to white. It just gets dirty quick. Try a color that matches the boat, or gray or tan/beige. Look around on SR's site to see boats like yours with colors - even look up through newer models.

All i can really find is black though. I would probably go with beige/tan but that is near impossible to find and keeping it cheap...lol
