Hey guys, been struggling with poor performance and hard starts on my 5.0mpi recently and went to do a distributor and rotor as a precaution/start. After struggling with rusty screws on the rotor I finally got them out and found the black metal mount for the rotor to not be attached to the distributor shaft? I’m new to this set up that does not seem correct to me. Can anyone verify. Thanks

It's not clear what you're doing. Are you replacing the actual distributor or the dist cap and rotor? I would think just the cap and rotor, right?

What do the cap and rotor look like? Clean? Fuzzy/pitted?

The cap removes with a couple scews and the rotor removes the same way. That's it.

What about plugs and wires?

Fuel quality?

Sorry for the confusion. The cap and rotor were both corroded and showing signs of age. The torx heads on the rotor were nearly gone. After working at removing the rotor I eventually got the screws but the metal cup that the rotor mounts to is not attached to the distributor shaft. I see no way for that mount to stay indexed and that does not seem correct.

Fuel quality should be good, filled tank with non ethanol and ran most of it thru already. Have changed filter as well as swapped injectors that I’ve wanted to do preventatively for a while. Rail pressure and build up all seem normal.
