Yes it's not good. I just replied. Thank you.

First off the marina has insurance. They have cleared roof in past. These are among the first questions I asked when I started storing there five years ago. We had heavy wet snow ontop of previous snow fall and It rained a bit over that night. The next day (Sunday) at about 2:30 pm the collapsed occurred. At least 7 boats damaged heavily including a big hatteras someone asked about. They dismantled The building using two large excavators with articulating claws. Those guys are contractors of course but they did a fantastic job in minimizing for the damage to the boats contained within the building. For the record my hull insurance is $310,000. I am more than adequately covered but I've been told in order to total the boat it would have to be 70% of that amount in damage. They placed a reserve of $125,000 on the repairs. That's roughly over third and no where's near the amount needed to total the boat. Fortunately the hull was not compromised and a damage was restricted to the bridge. Once I got to the boat and saw that I was truly amazed. I was concerned the hull would've been compromised by the jackstands it rested on but that was not the case. A local fiberglass guy from Mystic named Nick will be be fabricating the radar arch using the old one to create a jig. He's one of the best glass guys around so I'm confident it will look good. Still there's nothing like factory new for a replacement and I'm Upset and that we couldn't find one. I did receive a good lead from a private message that I'm following up on tomorrow so perhaps I will be able to get a factory original arch. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Sea Ray is zero help. I called and they basically told me I'm sol. Fortunately I have good insurance and the marina has really impressed me with their response. It's been 4 weeks and all damage repair has been sourced out. A new arch will be fabricate, new top and entire canvass replacement. New alum tube frame for roof. All new electronic package with HD E120's. New kvh, or rather ramarines version. New railing on aft bridge, seats, upolstery, steering wheel, cameras, etc... Only thing we've yet to find is the trim piece or "visor" which wraps around top of instrument console. I Got some good suggestions from you all including a. PM which I'm using. All-in-all things are moving along pretty good. Again the marina really stepped up and is making things happen. While my home port is Mystic I store at Chrster point inside I a Quonset type buildings. Been there for 5 years. Insurance mailed a check to me last week so I can start paying all the sources. My biggest problem was lack of follow up by the insurance company (AIG) surveyor. He's a local guy. Supposed to work for me. I won't use names but he lacks communication skills to say the least.

Thanks again everyone for your help and support. I'll post a few pics when I have more time. After it was removed from building it didn't look all that bad but they still assessed damage at 125k. that's a relative number considering the electronics alone are probably $50,000. If there's a silver lining to this dark cloud is that I'll get some new updated electronics and an entire new bridge enclosure among other things. I'll post some pictures as soon as I'm able. I'm sure you'll be interested in seeing them. Thanks again everyone.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am impressed with your insurance company and storage facility's response.

AIG Fired the original surveyor and sent me a new guy. Very responsive!

Real sorry to see that picture Brian, and hope the repairs are as painless as possible for you ! Ric

Hey Rick Thanks! Things are moving forward pretty smoothly. Boat is inside repair facility right now. Nick from Fort Rachel is doing the glass work. Dockside has got all the electronics ordered I should be good buy memorial day. Keeping my fingers crossed. Take care!

Sad to hear and see such a nice boat all banged up. Where is the boat now? Fort Rachel? At least it's a late spring this year. I hope to be in my slip at Mystic Shipyard in 15 days. I look forward to seeing the ship repaired and motoring down the mystic river soon.

Ughh ... I don't envy you. I went through EXACTLY the same situation in Feb. 2010 with our 2002 340 Sundancer. I was also crushed under a collapsed marina roof but did not sink. Eventually the insurance totaled the boat even though the total repair estimate was "only" $55,000 and the insured value $145K because an OEM radar arch was no longer available and I wanted a structural guarantee if someone would mold a custom arch, which nobody was willing to give. So the 70% rule does not always apply. Here it pays to have a reputable marine policy! THose guys who insured their boats with riders to their home policy were gluing arch pieves together for months because their inexperienced insurers forced them to repair. My windshield was busted and Sea Ray had one in stock for $22,000. That was the biggest single ticket item on the repair estimate. They ended up salvage selling my boat for $40k and the guy who bought it took an arch of a salvaged 340 and fixed her up. We did well because the boat was insured for much more than we had in it. Good luck!

BTW Sea Ray used to destroy molds for fiberglass hulls, decks and parts five years after a model went out of production.

I've got AIG. Good policy. In the whole scheme of things, totaling due to just the arch and top wouldn't fly although I wish it did. But.... I'll come out of this with all new HD electronics
Plus all else I mentioned. So far checks of about 60k have been written.

UPDATE:

Took delivery on July 18, 2015. Lost 2.5 months of season due to the negligence of Chester Point Marina, Chester, CT. They failed to clear the roof of snow. Conservatively that 2.5 months cost me $7,500 (2015 slip, insurance, bank, etc., plus my $3,100 deductible for a cool 10K plus.)

Boat repaired to better than new. All new Raymarine electronics, HD open array, Raymarine DTV, Entire Bridge reupholstered, entire new roof/arch/canvass/and bridge enclosure with Macrolon glass which is incredible! So clear it hurts my eyes! Also all new lower canvass. New stainless railings.... the list goes on and on. Total repair cost $92K.

For 2016 season we were excited to get going and make up for lost time but our excitement was tempered by a letter of non-renewal from AIG Insurance. Topic - your policy will not be renewed. Can you believe it? Not my fault and they drop me? My broker says old premium of $2,080 will double with new carrier...and it did. I shopped it and got another policy after paying $600 for a survey while my old policy was still in effect, for the same cost of my old policy with greater overall coverage's and hull value. The survey was actually a great idea for my own piece of mind as well. Established "replacement cost" of the boat at $857K. ???!!!

Happy to to hear you are back in the boat and all turned out, relatively, okay. Curious, what did you do for this past winter's storage?
