Roof Collapse 2005 420/455 DB Help!

I wouldn't tell anyone what to do, you have to make a decision that works for you.
I don't know to what lengths th OP went to protect his assets, he didn't give that infomation.

In my case, I asked the marina manager what his plan of action was concerning snow load on the dock structure. He didn't have one really. His idea was to spray water on the roof and melt the snow off. This was not acceptable to me so I took personal responsibility and did what I needed to do to protect myself. Nothing happened and people laugh at me for doing what I did. But it could have gone the other way just as easy.

I might not have shovled snow off the roof, but Made sure I had proper insurance coverage, as it seems like the OP did.

So what you are saying is that the guy should have gone up on the roof of the ON LAND STORAGE building, not owned by him and shoveled the snow off. Or better yet, move oh lets say 50, other boats to get his out it no the 8' of snow that the northeast got. Makes total sense...There is zero truth to the message IMHO

Alex, I work in an industry where we don't have the luxury of not planning or not having a plan of action, in case "stuff" happens. It transfers to my personal life as well. I guess I'm trying to say, if "we" melt down a reactor core, you wouldn't want us standing there saying there wasn't anything we could do.You'd want us to do everything in our capacity to mitigate the problem.
So yes, I do things way beyond what most would do.....you want that. haha

In record time the OP gets called a dumb azz . If your going to go that far why the hell would you spell ass with z's like that is supposed to make it less offensive ? I sure the OP is glad you didn't spell any bad words. It's the meaning that is hurtful not the spelling. Oh I'm sorry did I jump the gun and read into that second response.

If I ever decide to store my boat over winter in a reactor containment building, its great to know that someone will be there looking after it 24/7.

I gotta say that I feel for these folks. They did go what would in normal circumstances be considered the "extra mile" in paying the money to have the boat stored not only on the hard, but in an enclosed building, not a small feat considering the size of their vessel. Hell most marina's aren't equipped to store boats of that size indoors. It's unfortunate that the roof fell in, but on the good side, sounds as if the people involved had their assets insured, and hopefully all turns out well. I'm with the rest on here that certainly hope that you are made whole and satisfied with the outcome.

If you offered enough money, We could probably get it in there, we have a door. I'm thinking we wouldn't be able to release it after winter tho. haha

Fair enough, but Nobody goes into indoor winter storage thinking the roof is going to collapse and nobody can predict the amount of snow that was received. Maybe protocols were in place to help mitigate the roof weight but where not able to be implemented due to the extreme nature of this winter. In this case i don't think any planning would have prevented the meltdown of the proverbial reactor.

No reason to speculate any further. What is done is done and i hope this guys is made whole.

My heart hurts for the OP. He has a long summer ahead of him. It sucks.

Yea, but the GLOW would be awesome at night!

Seriously though I think this all comes down to due diligence...
Did you ask the storage facility owner if he had insurance? - reasonable.
Did you hire a team of snow shovelers to be on call 24/7 for 6 months just in case we get a epic snowfall this year? - unreasonable.

I think those of us who had a problem with the, stupid-azz response to OP comment are just wondering what should he have done to satisfy bozo the scooter pilot?

I stored in a facility with 355,000 sq of flat roof. The place is MASSIVE. We didn't have the kind of snowfall that the NE did, but I heard some creaks and groans that made me wonder about it. I can't imagine how they would clear the roof in a reasonable amount of time without making the situation temporarily worse.

That's why my friends like to raft up with me at night. Don't need no stinking green leds! Haha

I understand about Wayne, I tried to explain with bad results.

Our place is huge too and old and it made some noise....

The absolute silliest thing I could see being done is putting people up on the roof to shovel.
Explaining to thier families that they died in the collapse "so that boats might live" probably would not go over real well.

This is what I was eluding to. It's about being prepared, not reacting to a situation. I used the nuclear thing as an example. For instance, "WE" are planning for a tidal wave (tsunami ) event in Charlotte NC. Alot of money is being spent to mitigate a problem that most likely will never become reality. BUT we will be prepared if one hits us. Haha

Maybe its a where do you stop at (along with due diligence) kinda question - what is enough?

When they tell you that you need to start work on your asteroid impact emergency preparedness plan..... :smt101

Sounds like the OP tried to take good care of his boat including the indoor storage. I do think as a reminder to the building owners it would be OK for any of us to question them in regards to the snow load capacities of the roof. In times of abnormal snowfall for the area it might trigger a preemptive roof cleaning that could be done safely.

What post by Wayne?? They went over the top.
Sorry to hear about the damage.

Is it time to get back to helping Tenacious get his boat fixed?

Did anyone on CSR have a situation where their boat was damaged by something or someone else? Do they have any suggestions / comments that may help him get his boat fixed? Can some tell him things like: hire an independent insurance adjuster? Or you don't need to hire an independent insurance adjuster because you should not need it?
