I have family in Rochester. I am looking to tow my boat to the area with my Motorhome. Put the boat in a slip within walking distance to a campground where I would set up the Motorhome. Anywhere within about an hour drive or so would do. Be it right off Lake Ontario or rivers, even maybe finger lakes.
Thanks in advance

If you go to the Fingerlakes you will not be able to get to Lake Ontario unless you tow it there. There is no outlet to Lake Ontario from the Canal System. We just got back from a trip to Fairport which is about 10 miles south of Rochester.

We took the Erie Canal to the Oswego Canal which connects to Lake Ontario

If this is something that you want to do now, like an upcoming vacation in the next few weeks, I would go with the finger lakes.
Canandaigua or seneca. Lake Ontario is iffy in late August and September, the high winds come every few days.
If you want the big lake, try for a place in Sodus bay, somewhat protected, and if the weather is good, you can get out into the lake.

Connie yes there is. :smt001

The Oswego Canal connects to the NYS Canal and to the Cayuga-Seneca Canal.

Just looking for the future, most likely next year. Just need to find a fun spot to trailer the boat to that isn't to far from Rochester for the family to drive and meet us. I will be using the motor home to tow with. Once that is set up at a campsite we would like to just walk to the boat without having to pack up the Motorhome and use it as the car.

Yes I know that, but once you get passed Three Rivers heading west there is no access to Lake Ontario on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal.

Connie, I had a brain fart moment on that. :smt021. Sorry. :smt001

Try to contact the Rochester chamber of commerce mabey even check thier web pages to see where marinas are in the river on the lake side of the dam or on the lake itself .I took the trip to the finger lakes via the erie canal in 04 and the only exit is oswego. There are marinas in oswego area.
