Risers Manifolds Elbows - Mercruiser 5.0 MPI

the parts are heavy.. have help or... elbows and risers not too bad solo but for manifolds i took a 2x4 across the deck, used a ratchet strap to put a little tension holding up, removed bolts and suspended from strip to remove...even better for installation and aligning bolts....

youtube video show to cut the heads off of two long bolts from the risers, hand screw them in on ends of where the manifold goes in and slide the gasket if needed then the manifold, bolt in snug, remove long bolts and finish install....otherwise easy peazy, Good Luck

Do the riser and elbow gaskets go on dry or do you put something on them?
I'm doing my 5.7's, always went dry but now I'm wondering.

Dry, the graphite material really forms to the surfaces. Go with oem though, they’re much different when compared side by side and seem more consistently sized

You too bud, thanks for stopping by for the intro.....got everything on, but I broke a line to the the flame arrestor while lifting out the last manifold. Not sure how serious that is...just a plasic piece that goes to the head, so I think 8 can just repair it. I had no energy left to hook up the water line to the water pump, so coming back tomorrow to double check everything and fire it up.

Hey, I’m in the same situation where it’s time to change the risers and manifolds on my 2001 290 with 5.0 Efi’s. My problem is finding the smaller spacer I the picture. No one seems to have it and I’m told Merc no longer makes them. As pictured I don’t have much clearance to go with a 6” spacer. I’d hate to buy them and not be able to close the hatch. Has anyone had any luck locating the small spacer? I believe it’s part # 8M63742
