I'm not a mechanic, but the manifold says Mercury on it and when you replace the manifold, it's not replacing the internals, you cant do that, you replace the entire cast piece correct?

So bottom line the dealer did not replace the manifolds according to this picture, luckily I have it in contract, but after traveling to go see the boat and getting the boat shipped, it's more than disappointing.

Please advice and confirm my frustrations.

Yes one entire cast piece.

Now the question is when was it replaced today, last month, last year? What you see is surface rust and dirt and the only way to verify the condition would be to pull the elbows and risers and inspect internally.

The picture is not what I would expect to see from a just replaced manifold.

yes just replaced 2-3 weeks ago, and yeah me neither, I wanted to confirm before moving forward and calling the dealer out that you cant replace internals and I was exact on manifolds which i was 99% sure that was the manifold, but I guess I wanted to believe I didn't know what I was talking about and the dealer wasn't lousy

Well they sure don't look like they were replaced 2-3 weeks ago. I have new Mercruiser manifolds and they don't say Mercury on them. I can also tell from the turbulator gasket. When i replaced mine you can see a little silver sticking out. Yours doesn't have that at all. They look old.

yeah i knew before I asked but wanted to be 100% about the entire manifold being replaced, and so Ill let you guys know what the dealer says and how it goes especially since its a huge dealer on the East coast, which may have to be a whole nother thread to explain my experience and warn other buyers

Not sure what you mean about entire manifold. Here are the parts though.. The manifold gets replaced.( around $600 each) The elbow is stainless and doesn't the riser gets replaced also I believe.($375 each)

That manifold and riser looks pretty old to me. Possibly original from 2009? Who knows? Thats a lot of surface rust on the back of the manifold. Looks like the hose or clamp let loose back there once too.
If you get them to replace the exhaust, try to push them to use OEM parts.

I'm guessing they made a mistake and either billed you thinking the job was done (and it wasn't) or did the wrong boat. My marina changed the cutless bearings on my neighbor's boat when they were supposed to do mine. Then they tried (A for effort!) to get him to pay for the job. BTW, his boat is a '95 370DA and mine was an '89 340DB. No resemblance.

Any updates?

so update, after a lot of me trying to get ahold of the salesmen he initially said that it was done, making me feel like I was going to have to fight this, which I was prepared to do with a yacht survey done and pictures that documented the manifolds, so I would be able to compare pictures from the survey to current and prove they were in deed the same exact manifolds (as if Id switch them out to get over on parts or something), plus the bolts heads were untampered with.

So he eventually got back to me, informed me the work was done on a 270 sundeck, not my 290. So now im in the process of getting quotes for labor and parts from locals. Still cant get ahold of the salesmen to find out if he's going to ship his discounted oem parts up or if the local will order parts. Very frustrating, after incidents with the shipper who the salesmen recommended, and now the salesmen doesn't have 5 mins to talk to me and make it right so I can get the boat in somewhere as boating season in PA is upon us, and very short.

What do I win? (see post #9 above) ;)
