Reputation system poll – keep it or dump it

Reputation - Take it or leave it?

IMHO - Post like these are just a waste, If you want to use the rep feature you will and if you don't you wont. Most user will learn real fast who knows what they are talking about and who is just full of BS, looking to up their post count.

I'm in favor of keeping the rep point system in place for a decent interval before taking a definitive poll on whether it should go the Survivor vote. What is a decent interval? Maybe three months?

:smt089 my reputation is taking a dive...thanks guys...Did not know I gave bad advice in this post...too funny.

Sonmeone gave me bad rep points just for posting what they considered a thread that doesnt belong on CSR's holding tank...to me, that is the WRONG usage of bad rep points. THis is the only reason I am neutral on it and not in favor... just beacuse someone doesnt like a thread or uses the rep as a moral compass of some kind.

Yep - same thing happened to me on the CSR Rules thread when I posted a seemingly harmless opinion on the topic. Ironic thing is, in doing so they only validated the concern I expressed.

I think the system would probably do a better job of its intended purpose if the only option was to give kudos. There just haven't been that many Kearneys or packing nut snafus, and when they appear it's a safe bet that they will be quickly exposed.

That said, I'll remain neutral on the OP's topic out of respect to the site owner, who holds the only countable vote anyway.

Happy to be here - with or without points.

I am a proponent of the reputation system. I will not disable my reputation points thingy because I want to be accountable to you guys for the accuracy and content of my contributions to CSR.

As I said before, I have been concerned about the content on CSR for while, but I admit, I am a hard core boater and I don't do this for only amusement. The comments thus far have referenced only the "green" side of things. Consider the other side: As funny as some of it was, do you really think we would have had all the heated exchanges and name calling that went on last week if everyone knew their personal reputation on the forum was at risk? I doubt it.

I think it is a mistake to turn off the system or even allow it to be member controlled. We should all be accountable for what we post on the site, good or bad, and the reputation system in certainly one way to do that. In fact, I think both the positive points and the negative points you have earned from your fellow members should appear where the little boxes are under the total post count.

And, I commend Jim for his efforts to make CSR better.

Yes. Because humor is one of the most important parts of life, and heated exchanges are interesting on a bb. As well, this is a perverse way to use a rating system, that I feel should be specific to boat knowledge and boating advice, not because you dont like what someone posted.

I am not going to change how I post in any way regardless of rep points.:smt001

Thank goodness that somebody decided to "Rate" me.
Otherwise, I'd still be in the "Grey" area....

I was beginning to feel lonely....... LOL

And how did Frank get the double green????

And how did Frank get the double green????

IMHO, Frank should have a screen that's ENTIRELY green!!! Anytime I've read any of his postings I find them to be logical, well thought out, articulate and, most of all VALUABLE.

I vote to keep the system for now, and let's see where it leads.

Cheers,

Bill

instead of squares, can't we use the various bunnies w/stuff on it's head as indicators?

did that earn me some reputation points?

 Yes, but then I disapproved after you asked for the rep points, so now, no. :smt009

hehe...:smt001

For those of us that have been around for a while, that was meant to be a rhetorical question..........

Heck, give em 10 of them!!

I would say a more simple system would be better... as someone said, some sort of kudos system. But...

in reality, I'm pretty indifferent... and because I'm sure there are TONS of features on sites like these that I don't know how to use (this rep system being one); I don't even think my vote should count because it's unlikely I'll ever use it in the first place (I'm here for the convo; not any wacky little gadgets and perks)

Yeah, and two new members with 1 post each have ratings that say "XXX Offers Great Advice"
A perfect illustration as to the validity of the system.

Funny, even though you have your dot ‘hidden’ I was still able to give you my ‘I approve’ to your above post. Hope you feel my love dude! LOL
