So Last year we had a steering loss (STBD) with multiple error codes (low voltage) and was told by our mechanic that the boat may have lost it's personality and would need reprogramming!. We lost steering again last week, and after reading the notes from the last repair it states a certain procedure for keying the engines and battery settings to minimize errors. Has anyone come across this or had their "Personality" reprogrammed? Is this an actual thing?

Do you have Axius?

Yes, I have Axius

I have not heard about reprogramming the personality but this is the restart procedure for the Axius system from a prior thread.

"Power everything off and when you get to the Battery Switches turn Starboard off first then Port. Count to 10 and then reverse.... Port on first then Starboard etc etc!! Axius always wants to see the Port Switch on First and off Last"

I'll add... Axius is VERY voltage dependent. Very weird things start to happen when the battery voltage starts to fluctuate - it doesn't take much - it's a "picky" system!

The personality file of the boat specifies the relevant configuration values for the Axius system components. You can imagine that the thrust vectoring info for a 310 with 5.0L engines is very different from a 370 with 8.1L engines. The personality file captures all of these differences and ensures the boat performs properly when the joystick is manipulated.

In my experience, only a dealer can perform the programming. I had to have this procedure done on my 310 when Skyhook was finally activated in the firmware.

Mercury would not provide the personality file to me—only directly to the dealer as a matter of liability.

check the battery cable ends for corrosion, cut them off and recrimp new ends to clean shiny copper strands
