My 1996 370 is showing signs of low compression on the port side. still runs good but I need to begin looking into repowering both engines. We are looking at doing the Great Loop in 2020 so I want to make sure things are as good as possible.

So I have the 7.4 MPI/EFI engines. Anyone have recommendations where to purchase remanufactured long blocks or turnkeys? Warranties? Suggestions on upgrades?

I want to have this done over the winter if possible so I have next year to get them broke in and some hours on them.

Thank You for your assistance.

How many hours? Are you going to do your own work? If you are to do the "Loop" pay attention to the accessories (starters, alternators, pumps, hoses, etc.) as they are what will give you problems on a long trip. If that port motor runs good and still reaches full rpm I doubt it needs to be rebuilt.

Motors have 1100 hours on them right now. The engine does reach full rpm but doing a year long cruise I think for peace of mind I would like to have them redone/replaced. I will defiantly put in new starters, alternators, and all hoses during install.

Our marina does a lot of re-powers. They try to schedule them for the Aug-October time frame because they can buy complete turn-key crate engines from distributors who have some left over current year engines.

Boat manufacturers cannot use a 2018 dated engine in a boat manufactured as a 2019 model. If you can find someone or a dealer to buy a left over 2018 from the distributor for you, you will be getting a new complete engine at a substantial discount.

Mercruiser offers factory repowering and rebuilds. I posted the link on a similar thread a while back but you can Google it. I looked into these options when I was looking at buying your generation 370. I would suggest that you explore multiple options, but at least call mercruiser to see what they do. They were very helpful when I talked to them. You can also find local options and compare cost and warranty.
