VA. BEACH VA SOON TO BE
I bought this woderful boat of mine last week for $100. I will be getting starteed in a few weeks when I get it towed to my house in Pa. THe engine apparently was not winterized last year and I was given a estimate by the marina for $8000 in repairs to the engine and minor punps and such to get it sea worthy again. I think I will be able to do much better. I have been informed that it is a ford 302 engine and I have found new blocks but if someone can give me a starting point I am willing to give it a whirl before I get deep into the new engine part. I am posting some of the pics I took last week when I bought it so let me know what you think.
Thanks
Joe

sounds way pricey - the block in my 85 Bayliner was replaced just before I bought it (in 2006) and I got the bill from the seller - $4500 for a 350 chevy block.

Typical Marine Service crook. I found a nice low hour take-out 496 for $7k and asked for a price installed with a B3 - 22k!!! If you find an honest and fair service provider they are golden. I doubt they exist down here.

If you can afford to go new consider the Merc 383 Mag. Good value.

Here's a starting point. $2K ea for rebuillt 302's

Let me know where you are located. I can send to a marina that will give you the best deal I know of. He has very good and has recognized reputation. He's more than fair honest and backs up his work. I use this guy all the time. A friend of mine got a complete new engine carb to oilpan installed for under $4000.00

Thank you all for the inputs keep them coming... When I get my boat back to my house I have friends that are master mechs and say they will help so probly going to rebuld this if they think it can be done.

Check eBay. I'm doing the same for my 260 Dancer. There are a few on there from $1700 up. Good luck!!

If you want to keep it Ford try this link: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/boa/929222862.html

With the age your boat and engine you might be looking at new mainfolds, risers & shift cables ect. Before you get too deep into the boat maker sure the stringers and transom are sound and not rotted

Where in PA is the boat? Nice project. How far along is it now. Keep us posted.

Let's see I finally got it home. Ended up buying a truck to tow it with. Go figure right... After further inspection seems as thought the OD had a crack in the bottom near the Prop. I started cleaning and stuff but not much I can do In 20 degree weather so I am just looking at it for now for 23 more days until I move to Chesapeake Va. With the engine shot and now to find out the case is craked I think I am going to just replace it all. I need some info on what I can put back in its place... I really want to update everything... I have the serial numbers for the eng and od. I have found a few sites with a little info not much to go on.
