I need to replace my Good windlass. I found a remanufactured one for $950 and Good is saying that we need to replace the line also. I read in some threads where folks have suggested flipping the line around and using the end that's been in the locker for years. Has anybody replaced the unit without replacing the line? Were there any consequences? The reason for replacing is that the unit pulls the line up extremely slow. For the record I am always right above the anchor when trying to raise it.

If anybody has found a similar less expensive setup of similar or better quality I'd appreciate that info also.

My experience is windless work til they don’t. You won’t hurt the new windless (imo) reusing the old rode.

Is the old one rotating slower than it used to, or is it slipping on the old rode?

Thanks for the quick reply. It's rotating slower.

I don't see a need to replace the line and chain unless its in bad shape or its the wrong diameter or chain size for the new windlass.
