The aft shower sump is located in the center of the aft bilge under the master pedestal bed with access limited to a hatch that is offset aft making servicing the pump and float switch very difficult. The pump is inop so I was able to get it out but the discharge hose was original and broke in the middle in the process. I am considering whether for future servicing it wouldn't be better to just mount a macerator pump on the bulkhead out side of the sump in the discharge line instead. Does a macerator pump require head pressure to maintain prime or should it have adequate vacuum to pull water from a sump?

They almost all use a jabsco style rubber impeller which will self prime if zero air leaks and a minimal volume. But you probably know they don't like dry running long.
If you could mount it just low enough to be wet before the float switch kicks on you could avoid any issues and it would easily prime and suck the sump down to the cut off point

I ordered a Sea Flo 12 GPM 12 volt with run dry protection that claims to lift 4 feet. I ordered from Camping world for $89 I was going to pick one up at WM here but they want $169 for the exact same PN pump. I think this will work really well. I always hated trying to clean the one on my 44 even tough access could not be easier. Now the only thing in the water will be the float switch I can even leave the old hose in there as the pick up. I'll update on how well it works.
