Making good progress on bringing my "new" 23 year old boat up to snuff. The speakers are the original Audiovox and are a mess. Grills are cracked, some are torn.. one of 4 works. Will also replace the old Sony cassette head unit.

First step is to get the old speakers out. I can easily get to 2 of the 4 Phillips head screws, possible the 3rd but the 4th is impossible as it's head is about an inch from the inside of the side panel. I can see it but can't get to it with a screwdriver : ( Any suggestions?

Without knowing your layout as well as you do or which panel you're speaking of, can you either describe this better or a post some pictures?

But, in the meantime, just throwing something out there... would a screwdriver bit taped in place into a ratcheting wrench work? Or, what about removing this "side panel"?

Each speaker faces forward at a 45 degree angle and is mounted toward the stern end of the side pockets where you stow fendors, boat pole etc. There are 4 pockets - 2 aft and 2 forward on each side. I like the bit on the end of the socket - that would work. And I do believe that the side panels are removable but it's a big job with many hard to get at bolts. The boat is on a lake 2 hours away so pics will have to wait.

UPDATE: Took a closer look at it and there is no way around it.. have to undo all the bolts that attach each side panel to the fiberglass mold (there are lots of them all along both the top and the bottom of the side panel and they are all hard to reach). What a pain. Will take 3 X as long to get to the speakers as it will to replace them.
