Hi folks, I’m in the process of getting ready to have my block pulled on the starboard engine of my 2001 290 Amberjack. The engines are with the ZF 630 V drive configuration, and my question is can I pull the long block away from the transmission, or would it be easier to pull both engines and transmission. The biggest question is does the boat need to be hauled out to pull both or can it be done in the water. It would seem pretty difficult to realign the new block back to the trans when reinstalling, but I’m asking for your experiences and best advice on how to approach this job. Thanks in advance! Just had an oil pan done on mine, they left the trans in place otherwise you need to pull the drive shaft out, it pulls away from the trans easily

Leaving the trans in place seems very doable since the block is mounted up to trans with I believe 6 bolts. Realigning back to the trans would seem like a tedious undertaking. If the block could be rotated as it is “married” back to the Vdrive spline seems like a possibility. Do you know if this was an issue with your reinstall?

You can rotate the drive shaft to align the splines at back of trans where the shaft bolts to transmission or spin the crankshaft from the front damper on engine. Reinstall was no problem

Curious on how to get the hydraulic pressure up to rotate the input shaft splines using the propshaft? One set of the clutches have to be engaged using hydraulic pressure so both sides are coupled.

You are right rotating the engine is a better idea

Thanks for your advice guys!
