Can any one tell me how to replace the belt which runs from the crankshaft to the alternator..and one other thing which im not sure what? I have some pictures and if you look the belt runs under the moto mount it seems? Do i have to take those 2 bolts off on the right hand side to get a new belt on and off or is there something im not seeing?

Nope, you're not missing any trick. The FSM lists disconnecting the motor mount in order to replace that belt. Another example of that fine engineering Mercury Marine is famous for producing. I think you can remove one bolt, move the belt, replace the bolt, then remove the other both and move the belt another step until it's off and the new one is on.

Wow....:smt021....that is rediculous!

I see a nitch in the market for a 30 year belt!

how do i keep the motor from droping once i take the bolts off? I dont think i can do 1 at a time, the belt wont come off that way because the gap isnt big enough to get the belt thru?
WTF Mercruiser!

your going to have to support the engine with something.Or rig up a chain fom the top to keep it from droppping. You could rig up a support from the top with a 4x4 across the boat, drill a hole in it,get a piece of threded rod and chain.its a cheap, easy way to make a hoist.why do they have to sometimes make things so difficult

My service manual is on the boat, but I believe it says just to remove the two bolts on the starboard side of the engine and remove the spacer. The belt then comes off, and the engine won't go anywhere (dont quote me on that though - try searching around for the 3.0L manual)

Cool, well if you do find it can you please let me know?
Thanks!
