Ahoy!

If you’ve seen some of my other posts you’re aware that I’ve been fighting a bum 454 in my 95 330DA.

I’m afraid there’s no saving it and I’m currently sourcing a take out. My questions are-

1- with my boat being v-drive, is there any difference between a v drive and stern drive 454?

2- can any year 454 replace it? Or do I need a specific year? My boat is a 95. The engines I’m currently looking at are from an 87 scarab and they were rebuilt two years ago.

3- just curiosity - how many labor hours is it generally for yanking a motor out and dropping one in?

I'm working off bad memory. Both of the engines in my previous 1995 330DA with v drives were replaced by the previous owner presale with jasper long blocks. This was in 2003 I think. I recall the total cost being $15k or less. I'd go with MPIs if I were you.

Your '95 454 will be a Gen V engine. It will have no active fuel pump boss and one piece rear main seal on the engine, along with lots of of other changes, such as the tin (metal and plastic covers), the heads and intake / exhaust manifolds..

Just because the Scarab is an '87, doesn't mean the engines are. Those could be replacements that are of a newer design.
That is not mentioned. (go fast boats are notorious for being highly modified with the latest and greatest (and abused) over their life time)

If they are '87 will be a much earlier version of the block, with fuel pump boss, and a 2 piece rear main seal. All the tin (metal / plastic covers ) will be different, as will the head port configurations.

There is a lot to be considered in this swap, as it will not be a one for one swap. A ton of things are different

Oh yeah, the Bravo setup has belt driven fuel and raw water pumps. The '87 (pre Bravo) will not. These changes can be fairly easily overcome.

Good point about the year of the boat possibly not matching the year of the engine. My 2001 regal 3780 had factory original 1998 engines in them.
