Looking for advice on replacing the sun pad on my 96' 190 Bow Rider. Heading out for a night cruise over the weekend of the 4th, I lifted up the hatch and the sun pad ripped straight off the hinge. After dismantling it over the weekend I noticed a few things.
  • I don't believe this is the original from the boat
  • They definitely did not use treated or marine ply when remaking it
  • There were six circular holes cut in the bottom of the board, not sure why
  • I'm going to need to replace the moldy foam and possibly the vinyl as well
I've searched all over and haven't been able to find anything talking about this specific process. I do a decent amount of woodworking, so I am comfortable remaking this myself; I just want to make sure I'm doing this right so I don't have to do it again the whole time I own this boat. Specifically, I am wondering does anyone have any suggestions on where to get foam. I've been looking at dryfast foam and the best price I've found so far is here ( https://www.thefoamfactory.com/outdoorfoam/outdoorfoam.html ) I am also looking for any tips, pointers, or anything that someone can help with. I appreciate the help everyone!

Welcome. If the vinyl is reusable then this is a fairly straight forward repair. If not, an upholstery shop that specializes in marine products might be your best solution. Pull all of the staples and carefully remove the vinyl. Save the foam and wood to use as a pattern. Source the foam from the website you found. Use marine ply or standard ACX plywood. Cut to size using the old piece as a pattern. Seal with 3+ coats of spar varnish. Drill the vents holes like the original. They release air pressure and vent moisture. Cut the new foam to size. Hold in place with a small amount of spray glue made to be used with foam. Staple the vinyl into place using Monel (stainless) staples. Install and go boating.
