I need to replace the forward escape hatch on my 1982 36 SRV EC. Original equipment will fit in the hole - anything else requires a good deal of cutting and fitting. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where an original hatch can be located.

A picture may help here. But are you referring to a hard part (fiberglass)? Finding one of those is going to be tough, for sure. Can it be fixed? What's wrong with it? Otherwise, you could have any decent fiberglass shop duplicate it - being a small part, you could always ship it.

Edit: By the way, if it's just the core that is soft, that is typically a super easy repair.

there is a company in CT https://hatchmasters.com/ that refurbishes old hatches - may be the only way around modifying the opening

There are two latches. The pic shows the good one. The other "rubber" portion disintegrated. I can still batten down one side but lacks water tight integrity. May just have to live with it. Thanks for the input.

OK, so this is not a fiberglass part - just a regular plexi deck hatch. If you're going to replace it, simply measure the rough opening and compare to what's available.

You'll have to be more specific as to what the "rubber" part is. I don't know what is rubber in that pic.

Sorry- didn't mean to ignore you. I think I have found a proper replacement.
