Boat is a 2009 Sea Ray 270SLX.

It's still got it's OEM Northstar 550 Explorer.

I've always been a Garmin guy with previous boats, and had a 7215 on a larger boat (42 ft) that I loved, and a 741xs on my last boat, a 21 foot bowrider, that I thought was great.

Anyway, obviously, the OEM unit on the 270 is 7 years old. There has GOT to be something a lot newer in terms of technology than the Northstar 550, whether it's a Garmin or some other brand. Of course I want it to fit in the space the 550 is mounted in, so there's THAT.

Please guys.....suggestions! While I'd like to install Garmin, if it has to be something else, ok. Please tell me what my best bet is that will fit in the available space so I don't have to do any surgery on the dash.

Thanks in advance for your much needed advice and suggestions!!

Seriously? NOBODY has done this? There must be SOMEBODY who did this! Really need some help on this one!

I am exploring the same idea, replacing the Northstar. The engine data sync is what I would like to better understand. My old dual engine gateway died. So looking to just update the unit.

Bump... I am also interested but would like to replace the Navman Tracker 5500. I also want the Smartcraft integration. OP, if you find a solution, I would be interested in buying your Northstar 550 and Smartcraft gateway :)
