Repairing a frayed dock line

Caught a brand new dock line on the prop and frayed the end. Its got a white rope encased in a black braid ala West Marine.

How can I repair the frayed end so it doesnt continue to unravel?

Cut it straight and hold a cigarette lighter close to it

Wrap it with tape then cut it. After it is cut burn the end with a lighter or torch to melt the end so that the strands will stay together.

You could take it back to West Marine......They use a "hot iron" when they sell rope by the foot.
