Sadler, Searide, Chuck1, and I have been working on a voyage from the Pinopolis Lock to Charleston Harbor April 20. The plan is to trailer our boats to Santee and leave the Pinopolis Lock Friday afternoon April 20. We will meet Sadler either at the lock or on his way up the Cooper River as we cruise down to Charleston. We will spend Friday Evening and Saturday in Charleston. We will return to Santee Sunday.

If you wish to participate in this adventure please let us know as dockage and motels fill up quickly in the Charleston area. We would like to have everyone participate but dockage MAY limit the number of boats. You wil be responsible for fuel, food, dockage, and your accomodations.

When we have a head count an agenda will be announced.

Have a great day

Paul

SearayPaul, Sadler, Searide sounds like it is going to be a great trip. Thanks for all the work you've done :smt038

Good news. The 230/240 Bowriders still out number the one and only 240 SD. Now that's a change for the better  . Right Chuck?

We are still working on many of the details. This is actually one of my favorite trips with beautiful scenery all the way down. Locking through Pinopolis (70' drop) southbound is a great experience for those who have never done it and Charleston is a great city with lots of history and an Imax  .

Dave S. SR Paul has Mega Dodge Truck with a Mega Engine. I'm sure he could tow your boat and his without missing a beat  . So grab a trailer and come on down.

.....and by the way, I think our esteemed moderators, Mr. Bolts and Mr. W, should sponsor (pay for everyone's fuel, dockage and hotel) this trip. All in favor give me a thumbs up

On a serious note if you are coasting down to Charleston will you be hitting salt water on the way?

Yes, our boats will be in saltwater. Simply was them off once you get to your slip and all will be fine. A good waxing prior to departure helps. We will be launching in fresh water.

On the return, you will find that your boat is reasonably free of salt deposits as it gets a good dose of fresh water heading north.

Sounds good to me

Why do we need more Sundecks? We are already being charitable by including one Sundeck.

Rich just post your credit card number. We will take care of thre rest. Since you are from Georgia you can come to if you know the secret handshake. Please contact Chuck1 for details.

Richard/STIHBOLTS Help :smt100 Need another Sundeck to keep these BRs in place
As soon as I get your credit card info for the trip I'll pass on the secret handshake  :smt043

I still have my 240SD.....................anyone want to rent it? Or better yet you can buy it.

BTW Chuck, if you want to put all those bowrider owners in place, invite Sea Ray Jim along with his mega HP 240SD. Tht will keep em quiet when they try to keep up with Jim.

I hate to say this  , but I guess we could welcome another sundeck on the trip, if SR Paul approves  .

Seriously Dave, I'm sure you'll have it sold by the time our trip comes around. .....but if not feel free to borrow a trailer or hitch hike with us.

For those who have never experienced "locking", have a look at Hampton's thread (great pictures by the way) under general discussion titled Palm Coast to PC in 4 days. We will be locking through the Pinopolis lock located at the south end of Moultrie. This lock is a gravity fed system. The doors remain closed while you are inside the lock. There is also a floating dock so you can simply tie off and wait for the gates to open.

Dave I thought you had sold the 240SD already, did not see it on your sign anymore.
Yes SeaRayJim has one sweet 240SD

SeaRide did I read some where there is limited times for the lock. Is it avl 24 hours a day 7 days a week??? Do we need to contact them before hand?

Just talked to Paul and found this thread. I feel like a dummy. Anyway, come one, come all. This will be a great trip. And don't worry about the saltwater. I've got 400 hours and 2.5 years on the risers and manifolds on my boat (previous owners changed them out when I bought it) and a good flush after every use has kept them fine. Charleston and the surrounding area is a great place to boat, with almost countless places to explore. I have a tri axle 10,000 lb trailer if someone needs to borrow one for the trip.

Below's a photo I took of the Pinopolis lock last year after our journey up the Cooper.

And one more of the scenery on the way up. Man...is it purty! Hoping to entice some of the folks who might be holding out.

Chuck or Searide,

Do either of you have a Garmin GPS? (I know Paul doesn't.) If so, i can send you the route I saved after we went up the Cooper last year, and in the event I'm late getting to the lock, one of you can be the leader.

Sadler

Chuck,

I don't recall the hours of operation, but I've have never had a problem. I generally call a couple of days in advance to make sure they are in operation.
