Removing Water Heater

Dancin Dave, Stray Cat,

This is the connection where raw water from the engine goes into the heat exchanger in the water heater. The water is then returned to the engine where it eventually mixes with exhaust and comes out through the prop.

If you look at the first picture, the hose that crosses over the alternator is the hose that was put on to bypass the water heater. The hose from the water heater is still there the end is just hanging next to the alternator. It was removed from the engine under the left front corner of the plastic engine cover. You can see the red thing on the end of the hose clamp.

The water connections are threaded. You can see the red and blue fresh water lines connected to threaded elbows and fittings. The nipples for the raw water side are not threaded.

My 410 has a similar looking HW heater. My connection nipples for the engine hoses are plastic. I know this because they were never hooked up from the factory and there are just two plastic nipples protruding from the HW heater. This must be where my HW heater and yours are different, because obviously, mine being plastic they would never corrode off.

This begs the question, has anybody ever taken the sheet metal cover off the unit? If so, is the actual tank inside plastic or metal? I presume mine is plastic because it has been stated previously that the nipples are NOT threaded fittings nor serviceable. If the tank is metal, than my plastic nipples must be thraded in to the metal tank. Now I'm curious!

Dancin Dave, What water heater did you replace it with? The same or a smaller unit? JC
