Hope somebody can help me out on this. Just got the bottom painted on a boat (pettit hydrocoat) and in the process the fine black sanding dust from the removal of the old bottom paint has stained the gel coat with black spots. It seems that the overnight dew moistened up the dust and turned it into some kind of staining agent. I have already tried Spray Nine, Wesleys Bleach White, Black streak remover, etc. The only thing that has been working is to break out the big 9 inch buffing wheel and use 3M Finesse It. There has to be something out there that will chemically remove these stains. Any Ideas???

Ammonia.............or a strong degreaser and some elbow grease. The removal process is going to remove any wax you have left on the gelcoat, so the compound followed by wax is about as good a method as any.

Sorry, you are having to deal with it, but in the future, the only way to keep this from happening is to be sure the boat is washed every afternoon after all work in the boat yard ceases for the day.
