I’ve decided to consult the the brain trust before going any further. I need to replace the pulley on my westerbeke 4.5 bcgb governor. It started to wear end of last season and now just wobbles on the shaft. I’ve tried to press it out. Hammer it out and now drill it some and I’m afraid I might make it worse as I don’t want to screw up the shaft of the governor. I’m in the northern Virginia area. Any ideas on this?

Thanks!

First two photos show the pin now.. the other two show the wobble play

Just did mine last month. The pin only drives out one direction. I'd say you are driving it from the wrong side. Use a small punch and give it a good whack. Make sure the pulley is supported on the workbench.

What to see inside? I also rebuilt with a new shaft bearing. $20 vs a new unit at $2000.
Ha!

Did your start to wobble too?

Wonder if my drilling screwed it up? I tried hitting it with a punch tool but it didn’t budge.

I also just noticed on the replacement pulley westerbeke sent me there is only a hole on one side so I wouldn’t be able to knock it back out. Did your replacement have that’s?

Guys, having to deal with this same issue right now.

Have ordered a pulley from Westerbeke, it is out of stock and am waiting, but was told it could be a couple of months. AllTideUp, maybe you got the last one! Anyway, my pulley roll pin sheared off a few weeks ago while away. Minor wobbling and I drilled out the pin and replaced with nut and bolt temporarily and thought I could get a few more days out of it. Six running hours later, the minor wobble turned major, and I shut it down. Friends have suggested sending it out and have the pulley sleeved. I am looking for someone to do that now, while I wait for the new pulley. Regarding whats inside of it, it looks pretty simple.

LG111, what parts did you replace and what are the part numbers, if you don't mind me asking?

Any advise appreciated!

Do you have any shops near you that rebuild engines?

They will have the equipment to sleave it and hone it to final specs.

The only part I needed was the silver main bearing. Shown in the pic on the shaft. I took the old one and went to a bearing shop. They matched it. I'll look to see if I have a part number...?
You can find the pulley online. There are only two sizes. The small goes to the 7.0 low rpm genny and the slightly larger one goes to the newer 7.2 higher RPM genny. Both gennys use the same governor. 4 years ago mine had a wobble so I had a machine shop make a sleeve for the pulley. But when I pulled the pulley to get to the bearing inside, the sleeve gave way.

$130.00
