Remove automatic fire extinguisher system

Just went through this last Spring. It's a lot easier than you think. There is a metal safety pin that will be cabled or tied to the bottle manifold usually with a tag that stating something about it being the safety pin. There will be a way to insert that pin into the triggering part of the manifold to prevent an accidental discharge. After that, if there is a remote manual pull cable to activate the extinguisher you just unhook it which doesn't require any tools. You just have the back it out of the triggering arm by manipulating the angle of that connection. Then disconnect the two wires that go to the discharged/charged helm light. I had to cut them. Then unbuckle it from the mounting strap and you are done.

I got my replacement from Sea-Fire directly.

In a 1989 you may have the old Halon system. If you do then it has a single electrical plug that needs to be pulled to disconnect. Then loosen the mounting clamp and lift the bottle out of the mount. Have it weighed at a fire extinguisher company to be recertified. If it is underweight the whole system needs to replaced. Not cheep.

Also, if you replace the tank it takes much more of the new chemical to do the same job as halon. So the replacement tank will be bigger. When i tried to replace the tank on my 300DA I couldn't. The new tank would not fit.

I have the Sea-Fire G500A on my 1998 370DA. I don't see a place where there was a pin or where a pin could go into stop it from going off. This is original to the boat I'm positive. I see an electrical connection to the bottle but does anyone know if I unscrew that connection will the unit go off? I'm assuming that that connection is to shut down the engines if the unit does get set off.

Hi guys … I’m in Australia and have a 375 Sundancer which we love as our family boat. I have just had the boat surveyed for our insurance and the bilge extinguisher does not comply because it is Halon gas. We have a Seafire agent in Australia but no response from them to date. I’m hoping this can be as simple as to exchange the Halon gas cylinder for an alternate gas. Anyone done this ? Many thanks.
