I have a 1998 Sea Ray 190 BR. My question is related to removal of brown or rust colored stains on my seats. Does anyone know how to remove stains from boat seats? I have tried everything but nothing seems to work. They are brown or somewhat rust looking and I cannot seem to remove them. Ideas anyone?

You might try Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, but be careful, they can dull things.

I had some bird droppings that left a few stains on my seats. What I did was mix a solution of bleach and water (50/50 maybe...don't remember). Then I cut a piece of sponge to the same size as the stain, soak the sponge in the bleach solution and then set it on the stain. After about an hour the stains were gone.

You may have to press down on the sponge lightly every now and again to make sure the bleach solution is penetrating onto the seat. Basically just rub the area every 15 minutes and then let the sponge sit on top of the stain. It worked great. You may want to start out with a weak bleach concentration and add more if the stain isn't disappearing. be sure to rinse well and re-protect afterward.

The Magic Eraser didn't do much for my stains, but like Larry said, if you try the Magic Eraser be careful..it can act like sandpaper.

Good luck...

Sometimes the secret to removing a stain is to kow what caused it.

For instance, rust stains from well water could be removed with Oxalic Acid quickly and simply; brown stains from fish blood would respond to simple salt and bleach; brown stains from bird crap should respond to soap and bleach and drying in the full intense sun; dyes from clothing, bleach and sun. The consequence of strong cleaners is that the fabrics can be oxidized and weakend and in the case of vinyl the plastisizer removed. Treating fabics properly after use of stong clears in important to extend life.
