My mechanic had a push button switch he connects to a module in the wiring system for the engine in order to start the engine without going up to the helm. Anyone familiar with this part? Would help me with winterizing solo not having to leave the bilge to start and stop the engine at the helm. Thanks in advance and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Exactly. You will need to energize the main ignition then the starter to start and run the engine from the bilge.

I made a remote set up for my 390EC where I could start and run either or both engines while sitting on the battery box in the engine room. On an old 7.4 you just had to connect a 12V source to the ignition wire at the engine then close the starter. I did it with a regular marine ignition switch mounted on the back of the engine, but I don't know how you would wire in one with an electronic ignition/ECM engine.

Turn the key on at the helm, then use the button shown in post 2. That will start it. You'll have to rig a wire to ground the coil to stop it.

He probably has the MEFI 3 ignition. Hour meter would run at the gauge. Read out on the ECM would be actual run time

I have used one of those many times with the cars that had points to set the points on high cog to set the gap. Can also use it to set #1 piston at tdc when setting timing or replacing timing components. I still have it in my tool box some 30 years later.
